Wellington County has a diverse landscape mosaic with significant forest, wetlands and river habitats. The Grand River is home to a world class brown trout fishery. Wellington County has some of Ontario's most productive farm land. The cultural diversity of Wellington County is one of it strengths. The economy of Wellington County is a diverse mix of agricultural, industrial and institutional businesses.

The Wellington County Stewardship Council (WCSC) promotes the conservation and enhancement of land and environment resources in Wellington County for today and for the future. The Stewardship Council goals are to:

v initiate, promote and support activities that will improve the long-term health of the forests, land and water resources in Wellington County.

v provide landowners with the information, educational opportunities and encouragement they may need to follow good stewardship practices.

v develop and maintain good working relationships with agencies and organizations involved in stewardship activities in Wellington County and pursue opportunities for shared effort on projects of mutual interest.

v establish good two-way communication with landowners and others who are (or should be) involved in stewardship activities.

v protect and enhance natural ecosystems and aquatic terrestrial wildlife habitat.

The WCSC is affiliated with Ontario Stewardship, a program of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). The program brings community members together to advocate and implement community stewardship on private and public lands. The WCSC is served by a full time Stewardship Coordinator who is an MNR staff person that facilitates council projects and activities.
