About Us: The Renfrew County Stewardship Council
The Renfrew County Stewardship Council is a proud participant in the Ontario Stewardship province wide effort to improve environmental practices on private lands. The Council is comprised of representatives from a variety of land, natural resource, and other interest groups throughout Renfrew County. In its brief history, the Council has worked closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Stewardship, other government departments and agencies, and a variety of partners to carry out stewardship initiatives on the landscape. Notable among these are the Bonnechere River Watershed Project, the annual Woodlot Conference, the establishment of the Renfrew County Forest Stewardship Committee, and the Renfrew County Rural Water Quality Enhancement Project.
The Forest Stewardship Committee
In 2004 the Forest Stewardship Committee (FSC) was initiated to provide direction and support towards meeting the Council's forest objectives. This committee is comprised of volunteers representing the forest industry, woodlot owners, and technical advisors. The FSC's main objective is to help landowners achieve their sustainable forestry goals and improve environmental, social and economic benefits of private land forests in Renfrew County.

The Bonnechere River Watershed Project
The Bonnechere River Watershed Project (BRWP) was initiated in 1998 by the Renfrew County Stewardship Council. The BRWP grew out of the Council's 1998 involvement with St.Casmir's Catholic School of Round Lake Centre and St.Mary's Catholic School of Wilno in using The Watershed Report Card for their study of Byer's Creek, a Bonnechere River tributary. In 2006 the BRWP became a separate entity supported by the Council as an important partner. It is a community based organization that undertakes projects to enhance the environment and improve water quality in the streams, lakes and river course of the watershed.
Please visit the BRWP website for more details about the work of this partner.
