WELCOME TO THE

ESSEX COUNTY

STEWARDSHIP

NETWORK

We're Back! The past year has been quite intersting with the Ontario Stewardship and the Essex County Stewardship Network Websites. In April 2008 the sites were corrupted by a virus attack. This attack affected many of the websites that are hosted through the Stewardship Network of Canada and its suppliers. As a result, a massive rewrite and recreation of all the sites is underway. Ontario Stewardship was one of the first to receive the updated website software and while the site currently looks the same as before, it is running in a much more efficient format. The O\S IM & T Committee along with the Communications Committee are working hard to update the look of the sites. Thanks for your patience with the changes.

We are currently completing reporting to our funding partners for our 2008-09 projects, and we are also awaiting the announcements for the 2009-10 funding. The upcomming year has some interesting work taking place across Essex County. Our 2009-10 Annual Work plan will be posted soon to highlight all the projects.

The SOUTHWEST OUTDOORS CLUB is hosting their fourth annual BIG BUCK DAY at the Tilbury Arena on March 7, 2009. It is quite the event for any outdoors person. Come on out and stop by our table!

The ECSN is looking at corridor connections to maximize the resources available to connect Essex County's diverse habitats. All kinds of different ideas: what would you like to see?

ECSN 3rd Annual Environmental Day

The Essex County Stewardship Network hosted our third annual open house in partnership with the Friends of Point Pelee and Ontario Nature.  This years event featured two talks from our partners: Ontario Nature speaking about their work in Southwestern Ontario and Queen's University Biology Department speaking about their ongoing research on Eastern Foxsnakes.

92 landowners and local people interested in the environment attended the event that thankfully ended just before the late afternoon thunder storms.

The displays from ECSN, Ontario Nature, the Friends of Point Pelee, Queen's University, the Canada South Land Trust, the Essex Region Children's Water Festival and Point Pelee National Park provided information about the programs and projects we are working on.  Attendees were also able to walk around two of our wetland projects to see how we are working with the landowners of Essex County.

Once again, special thanks to the staff of Sanson Estate Winery for all their help.

Most of all thanks to all the project owners who came out to talk with us about their stewardship experiences, without your interest and cooperation, our program would not be what it is today.
